Ministering to the Military: A Guide for Churches
Engaging the Military Community in Your Midst
Mission
- Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James 1:27 (ESV)
- Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” Matthew 25:34-36 (ESV)
What You Can Do?
Remember & Visit
- Remembering, visiting those in nursing homes, long term care facilities, hospitals as well as shut-ins is a prime element of serving those who served.
Partnering
- Partnering with local veterans organizations will keep our eyes and ears open to the needs of our past and present Service Members.
Care Packages
- Deployed Service Members should receive at least one care package from your local group.
Holidays
- Military Families often end up living a very transient lifestyle. While others are happily enjoying holidays with family and friends that live nearby, Service Members are often isolated; Veterans in care facilities, that much more.
